Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning, also known as epidermal leveling, is a non-invasive form of manual exfoliation of the skin that resurfaces sun-damaged, dull and dehydrated skin. Using a surgical blade, a medical aesthetician gently exfoliates the outermost layers of the epidermis to remove dead skin cells, impurities and debris. This encourages the skin to regenerate new skin cells leaving the complexion smooth, soft and vibrant.

What does Dermaplaning treat?

Regular Dermaplaning treatments have been known to diminish fine lines, help unblock blackheads, temporarily remove facial hair, improve skin texture and tone along with enhancing the penetration of skin care products.

Will Dermaplaning hurt?

There is no pain associated with Dermaplaning, most people actually find it relaxing. It is a non-invasive treatment and only the dead skin cells on the surface will be removed. Since products will penetrate more easily, we recommend caution when applying aggressive skin care serums at home for a few days to avoid any irritation.

Will the hairs on my face grow back thicker?

No. The hairs on the face are called vellous hairs and it is physiologically impossible for them to grow back thicker. There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies, vellous and terminal hair. Vellous hair is fine, translucent hair often referred to as “peach fuzz”. Terminal hair is thicker, colored hair that grows under the arms, in the pubic area, on the legs and eyebrows. Terminal hair is removed with laser hair removal.

Is Dermaplaning recommended for Acne Prone Skin?

If you suffer from acne and an overproduction of the sebaceous gland, we do not recommend Dermaplaning. For acne prone skin we recommend Chemical Peels, which is another form of exfoliation that will clear and balance the skin, control sebaceous activity and decrease the formation of acne lesions.

Can I combine Dermaplaning with other treatments?

The combination of Dermaplaning with a Diamond Glow facial, or other option, is an excellent skincare treatment and one that we recommend to many of our clients. Since Dermaplaning removes the dead skin cells that act as a strong barrier against products, the alpha and beta hydroxyl acids in the peel are able to better penetrate into the skin to encourage new cell growth, reduce discoloration, soften fine lines and minimize the appearance of pores. Since this is a more intensive treatment than the Dermaplaning Facial, there can be 1-2 days of slight skin flaking around the nose and mouth.

Are you a good candidate for Dermaplaning?

Any patient, who doesn’t suffer from acne, is a candidate for Dermaplaning. To decide which anti-aging treatment is best for a particular patient, it is necessary to meet with one of our Medical professionals for a free consultation to discuss all possible methods of skin rejuvenation and treatment.
